Welcome to the first instalment of 'Your QVB Experience - A Unique Discovery', we want you to enjoy more of the QVB and discover the heritage of the building as well as stores that you may not of visited before! Designed as a walking tour, simply follow the steps below or follow along from our instagram to experience the best QVB has to offer.
Celebrating 120 years in 2018, the Queen Victoria Building is almost as iconic as Christmas itself - it is the perfect destination for shopping, dining and entertainment this festive season. We take you on a behind the scenes Christmas journey so you don't miss anything on your visit to the QVB.
STOP 1: Your Christmas Guide
Start on the ground floor, right underneath the dome. Go to the concierge desk and collect your QVB Christmas Guide.
Filled with details of everything QVB has to offer this Christmas season plus some gift inspiration to get you started! Once you have your hands on the Christmas Guide don't forget to enter our competition to win a Haigh's Christmas Hamper valued at $275! Simply scan the QR code found in the guide on your phone and follow the prompts to enter. Good luck!
STOP 2: Coach Holiday Season Windows
Head towards the tree, make sure you admire the Swarovski Crystal tree trunk on the way through. Just after the tree on the right, you will arrive at Coach. Coach unveiled “Lights, Camera, Holiday,” its campaign for the 2018 holiday season.
Starring actress, singer and global face of Coach women’s Selena Gomez, the campaign follows the star and an unexpected cast of animated animals as they audition for the gig of the season: the Coach holiday windows. The campaign puts gifts and the tradition of holiday windows at the heart of the story to celebrate all that is fun and festive about this time of year.
Make sure you don't only admire the front windows, but go into store and see the festive characters placed around the shop holding up bags and accessories.
STOP 3: The World's Most Expensive Advent Calendar at Mondial
When you leave Coach, keep walking in the same direction for a few steps, before crossing over to the other side at Metropole. Just in front of you on the right you will see Mondial and in the window, the world's most expensive advent calendar.
The calendar, worth in excess of A$4,000,000 (Four Million Dollars), has been meticulously handcrafted by master cabinet maker and Sydney resident Tim Garside, using specially selected, natural Australian timbers and embellished with precious gemstones, gold and silver as well as hand-made, crystal chandeliers. With secret doors and panels numbering 1 to 24, each day of December will reveal a new treasure to the public up until Christmas day. The calendar will not only delight those interested in luxury jewellery and time-honoured craftsmanship but also draw attention to the historic QVB as it continues to celebrate its 120th birthday.
STOP 4: Sugar Hit at Zumbo
Now go back the way you came, back towards the Swarovski Christmas Tree again, stopping at the Zumbo Kiosk and pick up a festive Candy Cane Zumbaron (or two!)
A taste of Christmas the candy cane Zumbarons not only look cute but are the perfect gift, purchase the flavour on their own or include in assorted packs with all your other favourite flavours! The Zumbarons are gluten free and contain dairy, soy, eggs & tree nuts as allergens. 2-pack $6, 6-pack $17, 12-pack $33.
STOP 5: Visit to Santa
Keep walking on from Zumbo and take the escalator up to level 2. When you are about half way up the second escalator you will see the Royal Clock!
Designed in 1982 by Neil Glasser, the Royal Clock shows scenes of English royalty from King John signing the Magna Carta to the execution of King Charles I.
Now continue on down towards the Swarovski Christmas Tree again, make sure you have a look at the extensive Christmas windows in City Toys & Treasures along the way! Shortly after you will reach the Enchanted Garden to find a very special guest! Take a peek inside to see Santa with the fairies, however you can also book here to get your very own photo with Santa!
STOP 6: The Swarovski Christmas Tree
Just behind Santa is an incredible view of the tree! This dazzling giant – the largest indoor Christmas tree in Australia – stands at 24 metres and reaches all the way up to the heights of the centre dome. Just as beguiling are her more than 100,000 sparkling crystal ornaments, 65,000 twinkling lights and 6,400 rosebuds. Wind your way up the stairs to see the glorious crystal gilded star atop the tree.
The captivating Christmas creation has taken more than 66 hours to put together with the help of more than 100 dedicated team members and crystals which have been flown from Austria especially for this occasion.
STOP 7: Festive High Tea
You are almost at the end of your tour! Keep walking straight ahead to the very end, however before you pass the clock, look in the windows on your left and admire the pink QVB Fairytale Christmas display.
The theme around this years Christmas campaign, paper engineers crafted the iconic building as an impressive to-scale model forming the whimsical hero creative. It took six days to construct and sets the scene for a storybook-like festive landscape where the characters come to life.
Continue right to the end and take the lifts up to Level 3 where you will reach The Tea Room - it is now time to enjoy a Festive High Tea! A delectable Christmas themed high tea includes the classics such as golden scones with lashings of clotted cream and jam, along with festive-inspired treats. Available 7 days a week, from November 26 - December 24.
