10 Sep 2019
Don’t you find there’s something glamorous about dining at night? The streets become dark, the lights flicker on and the city begins to hum a different tune to that of the beat of the daytime. At the heart of Sydney CBD, within the historic 121-year-old walls of the Queen Victoria Building lie a variety of establishments just waiting to be explored for an After Dark dining scene.
Here are our recommendations for delicious After Dark dining, all under the one roof:
Bursting with charm, style and decadence, Esquire is the perfect late-night hangout, where the lights are low, the bar high and the choices aplenty. A selection of handpicked local wines and whiskeys fill the shelves of this speakeasy-style venue, making it the perfect place to unwind for a tipple after a hard day’s work. Or, stay a little longer to dine on the carefully curated bar menu, available from 10pm. Let the senses take over and tuck into one of the city’s best antipasto platters laden with salumi, pickles and olives or satisfy those mighty late-night cravings with a Wagyu Cheeseburger or an indulgent Gruyere de Comté Jaffle.
You can drink + dine at Esquire from 12pm till late Monday – Saturday and 3pm till 12pm on a Sunday.
Forget the mild and escape the meek, Reign has the delicious tipples you seek. If late night sips on Sydney’s finest bubbles are your prerogative then make sure you step into our picturesque Champagne bar, Reign – a fine place to toast the wins of the day.
Select from more than 150 Champagnes and bubblies – or take a Champagne flight and tour a particular region or producer with a Champagne flight. From Thursday to Saturday, 10pm till late, sample the supper menu offering indulgent dishes like steak tartare, anchovy cream and Dijon toast or opt for a comforting ham & aged clothbound cheddar jaffle.
Reign also offers a bottomless brunch option at the weekend and is a perfect destination for ladies who lunch during the week, serving food 11am-3pm.
An authentic Italian experience is another option provided by the QVB and it’s at its best after dark. Think traditional woodfired pizzas, covered with fresh ingredients such as buffalo mozzarella, parma prosciutto and cetara anchovies, or homemade pasta washed down with a glass of Sangiovese. Vanto is located on level one; a prime location for people-watching as the thousands of commuters and QVB shoppers weave through the building at night.
Dinner is served at Vanto Tuesday to Friday 3pm to 9pm.
If modern Australian dining is what you crave after a busy week in the city, then look no further than the elegant Cicchetti Wine Bar. The menu offers Australian-fusion dishes, salads and fresh fish of the day alongside a range of homemade cakes and pastries. Adriana Aldea, head chef at Cicchetti Wine Bar prides herself on offering dishes that are made from scratch from the best Australian produce available at all hours of the day.
Cicchetti is open Monday – Friday 10am-9pm and 10am – 4pm on Sundays serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner
The pursuit of good food is never complete but at the QVB the perfect After Dark dining journey is just waiting to be explored.
